Ballard Realty Company, Inc. is a full-service real estate company that has developed communities, managed properties and guided investors across the Southeast for more than seventy-five years — matching concepts with the needs of the community since the post-war boom.
Our heritage
Real estate attorney Eugene Ballard founded the company in 1948, in response to the post-World War II housing boom. His commitment to professionalism and integrity continues to define the company to this day — the founding principles have simply been handed down rather than replaced.
His son, Bowen Ballard, joined after graduating from the University of Alabama and serving in the U.S. Air Force. A retired Air Force Major General and past president of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce, he has led the company as CEO since 1987 and remains a recognized figure in the business, civic and military communities.
Across three quarters of a century the through-line has held: we match concepts with the needs of the community, and we listen as intently to the first-time homebuyer as we do to our largest commercial client.
"We respond to community needs and an ever-changing economy — grounded in the same principles we started with."

Developing multi-use communities matched to the region's needs.
Development, management, leasing and investment under one roof.
What we do
Four disciplines under one roof, so a concept can move from raw market research to a managed, income-producing asset without ever leaving the firm.
Multi-use communities matched to the market — from retail centers to large multifamily properties. We provide the design and plan expertise that turns a concept into a reality on the ground.
Full management for landlords and property owners, delivered to the standard of an Accredited Management Organization — the designation held by only a select few firms in the field.
Listings and representation for retail space, office space, multifamily and commercial buildings — an extended arm of your company across the Southeast market.
Acquisition and syndication of income-producing properties, with opportunities through limited partnerships and direct investments structured for capital appreciation.
Development
Ballard has been developing multi-use communities for more than fifty years, providing the design and plan expertise that makes a concept real. We were one of the first to develop a Planned Use Development in Montgomery — and we build to be lived in for generations, not merely opened.
Our development arm runs a centralized process end to end: market research, property acquisition, financing options, the construction phase, project management through lease-up, and permanent financing to conclude. Continuing feasibility studies and creative analysis let us respond quickly to community needs and a changing economy.

Property management
Designated by the Institute of Real Estate Management
Ballard is one of the few property management firms to earn the AMO designation — a mark requiring years of experience, financial stability, professional skills, accreditation, integrity and strict adherence to the Realtor Code of Ethics.
Management for landlords and owners across property types — from single holdings to large multifamily and commercial portfolios.
Strategic planning and asset management that protects and grows the value of what you own, backed by ongoing market research.
Rigorous financial stewardship — the reporting, accounting and discipline that the AMO standard and our owners expect.
Leasing, retention and day-to-day responsiveness that keeps quality tenants in place and properties fully performing.
Facility development and upkeep coordinated to preserve asset condition and minimize the costs of neglect over time.
The leasing lifecycle managed in full — space planning, negotiation and renewals handled by an experienced in-house team.
Client feedback
We handed Ballard a mixed commercial portfolio that two previous managers had let drift. Within a year the reporting was immaculate, the vacancies were filling, and I finally understood the numbers. The AMO designation isn't a decoration — you feel the difference in the discipline.
As a first-time buyer I expected to be an afterthought next to their big commercial clients. The opposite happened — the same team, the same patience, every question answered. That old line about listening to the first-time buyer as closely as the largest client turned out to be true.
We partnered with Ballard on a multifamily development from raw land through lease-up. Having research, acquisition, financing and construction management in one house meant nothing fell between vendors. Seventy-five years of doing this shows in how few surprises there were.
